This industry is relatively new compared to many others due to the constantly changing technology. With that in mind, packaging for this industry has been changing in a regular basis. Packaging for this industry started as a mix between folding carton and corrugated stock with either plastic insert trays or paper pulp trays. This was mainly dependent on regions globally as environmental concerns varied.
As product portfolios grew among manufacturers, the number of packages grew and more streamlined components were designed to accommodate the growth and reduce the number of SKUs. Also, uniformed package components were created along with graphic styles to unify brands and tiers.
Accessories came into play and packaging for them also evolved from elaborate configurations to user-friendly designs. The designs for most products in this industry are similar from one brand to the next but a few do stand out from the pack, giving them a somewhat competitive edge.
